Onazi: Eagles ‘ll Be Ready For W/Cup Group D Opponents
Super Eagles vice-captain, Ogenyi Onazi has said Nigeria will be fully ready for 2018 FIFA World Cup Group D opponents comprising of Argentina, Iceland and Croatia when the competition kicks-off 14 June in Russia next year.
Nigeria defeated Argentina 4-2 in an international friendly 14 November, and the draw held on Friday in Russia surprisingly put the two countries together again making it five times Nigeria will be playing the South America giants in its six-time appearance at the Mundial.
Reacting after the draw, the Trabzonspor midfielder assured their teeming fans ahead of the competition next year. “Nothing good comes easy. Now we know our group we will prepare mentally, physically, tactically… it’s time for Africa to make diff with God on our side nothing is impossible,” Onazi wrote on twitter.
Great rivals Argentina have a more complicated task alongside Euro 2016 surprise package and tournament debutants Iceland, Croatia and Nigeria in Group D. It is the fifth time in Nigeria’s six World Cup appearances that they have drawn two-time champions Argentina.
