NPFL: Plateau United Pip Rangers To Go Top As Lobi, Sunshine Secure Home Wins
Reigning Champions Plateau United are back on top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) following their 1-0 win against visiting Enugu Rangers in matchday nine rescheduled fixture at the New Jos Stadium on Wednesday.
Chizoba Amaefule netted the only goal 13 minutes into the game, as the game ended 1-0 in favour of the Kennedy Boboye tutored side in the epic home clash against the Flying Antelopes. Plateau United moved from sixth to the top spot with 18 points from nine games.
Akwa United missed the opportunity to retain their top position after losing 1-0 to Lobi Stars at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi in another Week nine rescheduled game. Sunshine Stars of Akure improved their status on the league table with a convincing 3-1 win against visiting Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) FC in Akure.
Sikiru Alimi opened scoring for Sunshine in the ninth minute, Nojeem Akinyemi equalized for MFM FC in the 51st minute of the thrilling encounter, while Tayo Adebogun grabbed the decider in the 78th minute to give the troubled Owena Whales side vital home win against the CAF Champions League campaigners, Olukoya Boys.
Meanwhile, with the result, Shine moved from last to 15th position on the NPFL log.
