Messi’s Brace Powers Barcelona To 3-0 Win Over 10-Man Sevilla
Lionel Messi scored twice on his return from suspension as Barcelona piled the pressure on Real Madrid on Wednesday by moving top of La Liga with a 3-0 win over Sevilla.
Messi was banned for his last two outings for club and country but looked rested rather than rusty as he took his tally for the season to 43 goals in 41 games. The Argentine also played his part in setting up Luis Suarez’s stunning overhead kick to open the scoring.
The hosts were in control from start to finish and opened the scoring through Luis Suarez’s overhead volley. Messi swept in a quick second from Suarez’s cutback before making it 3-0 with a fierce volley.
Sevilla were reduced to 10 men in the 90th minute when Vitolo was sent for a second booking after a foul on Neymar. Substitute Pablo Sarabia had Sevilla’s two best chances with powerful long-range drives in the second half but the visitors never really looked like scoring.
