Nigeria born British boxing star Anthony Joshua will have his next two fights at Wembley Stadium – the scene of his stunning victory against Wladimir Klitschko last April.

According to a statement released by his promoters Matchroom Boxing, the IBF, WBA, WBO and IBO champion will defend his world titles at the English national stadium on 22 September and 13 April 2019.

Sky Sports reports that the opponents for the two Wembley dates are yet to be decided. But the September fight will be against either WBC champion Deontay Wilder or WBA mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin.

Joshua returns to Wembley after twice fighting at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, in bouts against Carlos Takam and Joseph Parker. His previous Wembley appearance against Klitschko was a 90,000 sell-out and the next two bouts will see attendances of between 90,000 and 100,000 each time.

Including the total 150,000 who watched in Cardiff, the Wembley double bill will take Joshua’s ticket sales past the 400,000 mark for five world title fights.

Promoter Eddie Hearn tweeted that an announcement for the September opponent will be made next week.
