Europa: Arsenal Face Tough AC Milan Draw As CSKA Confront Lyon In Last 16
Premier League side Arsenal will face seven-time European champions AC Milan in the last 16 of the Europa League in a draw that was decided in Nyon Switzerland on Friday.
The Gunners scraped through on Thursday night despite their dreadful 2-1 home defeat to Swedish minnows Ostersunds. The draw has kept Arsene Wenger’s team against the AC side going through a tough time, as they sit 7th in Serie A, 15 points behind leaders Napoli.
The first leg will be in Italy on Thursday March 8 with the second leg a week later. The last time the Gunners played in the San Siro back in 2012 they lost 4-0 against the giants. Arsenal must improve following their pitiful performance at the Emirates Stadium last night, a display the Frenchman labelled ‘unfocused’.
Arsenal could get their hands on their first trophy of the season this Sunday at Wembley Stadium when they take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final. The AC Milan team that beat Arsenal 4-0 the last time the UEL draw round of 16 rivals met at the San Siro.
Also, Russian side CSKA Moscow will tackle Olympique Lyonnais in their round of 16 clash. The first leg Red-Blues will play at home on March 8, second leg at away on March 15. Atletico Madrid have been pitched against Lokomotiv Moscow in another thrilling encounter.
Italian powerhouse Lazio is expected to lock horns with Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv in their round of 16 tie. German club Borrussia Dortmund will engage Austrian champion FC Red Bull Salzburg in the knock-out stage of the competition.
