Ahead Africa Weightlifting Youth Olympic : Islamiyat Yusuf Leads Team Nigeria Weightlifters To Glory In Egypt

Osun-State-born young weightlifter Islamiyat Yusuf showed class at the ongoing Africa Weightlifting Youth Olympic Qualification and Junior Championship holding at the AT Cairo International Stadium in Egypt.
The Nigerian Weightlifting Contingent has so far won three gold and six silver medals with Islamiyat Yusuf winning one gold and two silver medals and thus qualified for the African Youth Olympic Games coming up in Buenos Aires, Argentina from the 6th of October to 18th.
The 16-year-old weightlifter won gold in the female Junior 48kg category after a Snatch of 52kg, Clean Jerk 59kg to make a Total of 111kg. The medals won in Egypt are the latest in a growing list of triumph for the S.S.3 Student of Osogbo Grammar School who took up the sports in 2015,
In the same vein, her coach persistently asked her mum to allow her do the sports and ever since has grown with winning impressive tally of medals, including victories at the African Junior Championship in Uganda and also the Nigerian Youth Games held in Ilorin. Her breakthrough came last year in Ilorin when she topped the podium thrice in the 63kg, 65kg and 69kg class.
Speaking with saharareporterssport.com from the AT Cairo International Stadium, Islamiyat Yusuf who couldn’t hide her emotions after she produced the performance of her life in Cairo, even though she struggled to find the words to describe the moment.
“I am very happy about these achievements and so glad my hardwork is paying up. It is a very great honour and I can’t express my thoughts,” revealed Yusuf, who has also qualified for the World Youth Olympics in Argentina.
“I want to thank everyone that has supported me through. God almighty, my coaches, the State Government of Osun and the entire Staff of the Osun Sports Council. The Africa Weightlifting Youth Olympic Qualification and Junior Championship holding at the AT Cairo International Stadium, Egypt, will end on the 30th of March.
