United Outclass Ajax To Win Europa League Trophy, Qualify For UCL
Manchester United defeated Dutch giants Ajax 2-0 to win their first Europa League title on an emotional night in Stockholm.
The match began with an emotional and somber tribute from both teams honoring the victims of the attack on Manchester Arena on Monday. Jose Mourinho’s first season as Red Devils manager ultimately reached the promised land as they booked their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Paul Pogba scored the opener in the first-half when his shot was deflected beyond Andre Onana. United seem to relax after taking the lead and it wasn’t until after the break that the nerves were settled when Henrikh Mkhitaryan reacted quickest to turn home a Chris Smalling header.
Meanwhile, the goal was Mkhitaryan’s sixth strike in eight games during United’s title-winning Europa League campaign.
