Tunisia Dethrone D’Tigers To Emerge New AfroBasket Champions
Hosts Tunisia have dethroned Nigeria’s D’Tigers with 65-77 points to emerge new champions of the 2017 men’s AfroBasket Championship on Saturday.
Nigeria started on a good note in the first quarter with a 14-8 points lead, but slumped to 10-17 points defeat in the second quarter. The Tunisians extended the lead in the third quarter quarter with a 16-27 points, while the fourth quarter ended 25-25 points tie between the countries.
D’Tigers captain Ike Diogu was voted Most-Valuable-Player (MVP) for his role and impact in the Nigerian team, helping them to reach final of the biennial basketball tournament.
Meanwhile, the victory is a huge achievement for Tunisia, after winning their first ever FIBA AfroBasket title at home.
