Super Falcons Secure Slim First Leg Win Over Gambia
The female national team of Nigeria, the Super Falcons, were able to secure a slim first-leg victory over the Queen Scorpions of Gambia to put them ahead in the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifier.
The match ended 1-0 in favour of Nigeria as Okoronkwo Amarachi scored the only goal of the match after 19 minutes of play.
The team coach, Thomas Dennerby trusted his attacking stars that include Asisat Oshoala, Desire Oparanozie, and Francisca Ordega to get the work done and it paid off as the team secured an away victory.
In a match dominated by the Super Falcons, the team could not capitalize on their goal-scoring chances.
The Nigerian ladies would be preparing for the second leg of the qualifiers which would be played in Nigeria on 11th of June, 2018.
Winners over both legs will progress to the 11th AWCON finals which will be held in Ghana later in 2018.
