Spain Sacks Coach, Lopetegui, A Day To World Cup Kick-off
Lopetegui had just agreed on a three-year contract with a Spanish club, Real Madrid.
It appeared that the Spanish football body was furious with the decision of the coach to fill the vacant coaching role at the Madrid capital club.
Lopetegui has just been at the helms of affairs of the Spanish team for just two years.
It was gathered that Spanish Football Association president, Luis Rubiales arrived at Spain’s training base late on Tuesday night to decide on next step to take on the matter.
Speaking to newsmen, Rubiales said the FA have been forced to dispense with the national coach and the association wishes him the greatest of luck.
He, however, added that negotiations occurred without any information to the Spanish FA and they got to know about it just five minutes before the confirmation through a press release.
Answering a question on who would be leading the team in the world tournament, Rubiales said, “We are going to touch as little as possible. We are working on it. When we know we will tell you.
“I have spoken with the players and I can guarantee they will do everything, along with the new coach, to take the team as far as possible. To win is very important, to have the best coach very important, but above everything is acting in the right way. Maybe this is tough now, but in the end, it will make us stronger,” Rubiales asserted.
