Simona Halep beat Sloane Stephens to clinch the 2018 French Open in women category.

Halep came from behind after losing first set of the game to win 3-6 6-4 6-1.

Having lost at three major grand slam finals, the world number one was unable to hide her excitement after securing victory in the competition.

The victory made the 26-year-old the first Romanian to win a Grand Slam title in 40 years.

Speaking after her victory, Halep said, “I did everything I could. It is amazing what is happening now, I have been dreaming for this moment since I started playing tennis.”

Stephens speaking after the match said, congratulated Halep and asserted that there is no one she would rather lose to than the World number one, Halep.

It’s been an incredible couple of weeks. It’s not the trophy I wanted but it’s still beautiful so thank you guys. To Simona, congratulations on your first slam. There’s no one else I’d rather lose to than the world No 1.”

The male finals would see Rafael Nadal faces Dominic Thiem at the Roland Garros.
