NPFL: Sunshine, Nasarawa, El-Kanemi Secure Vital Home Wins
Sunshine Stars of Akure recorded their first win under new coach in their 2-1 win against newly promoted Desert Yobe Stars in matchday 13 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday.
Moses Tsehuan opened scoring for Yobe in the 17th minute, Bala Yahuza leveled scores for the home team in the 29th minute, before Sikiru Alimi header for the Owena Whales in the 61st minute.
Nasarawa United FC at the Lafia Township Stadium defeated visiting Lobi 2-1 in another thrilling encounter. Austine Ogunye put Lobi in front from the penalty spot five minutes into the game, Najeem Olukokun equalized for Nasarawa in the 20th minute.
Ikechukwu Nwani grabbed the match-winner for the home team in the 32nd minute as the game ended 2-1 in favour of the host. Both teams ended the game with 10-men as Lobi’s Anthony Okpotu and Mohammed Manga of Nasarawa were sent off in the 53rd minute for engaging in a brawl.
El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri confirmed their supremacy by defeating FC Ifeanyi Ubah 1-0 on Sunday. Ocheme Edoh netted the only goal in the 22nd minute as they put the Anambra Warriors to the sword in the epic encounter.
Katsina United pipped Heartland 1-0 to compound more pressure on the Naze Millionaires. Lukman Mohammed scored the only goal from the penalty quite early in the third minute. Heartland also ended the game with 10-men after Abiodun Thompson got the referee’s marching order in the 50th minute.
Abia Warriors defeated Wikki Tourists FC 2-0 as they enhanced their position. Samson Obi turned in Emeka Isaac’s corner kick to put Abia Warriors in the lead in the 69th minute, while Samson Obi doubled the lead in the 81st minute to end the game 2-0 at full time.
