NPFL: Akwa Beat Wikki To Maintain Lead As Champions Plateau Utd Thrash Sunshine 5-0 In Jos

Akwa United FC maintained its leadership on the summit of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday with a 4-0 win over visiting Wikki Tourists in their match-day seven clash at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Ubong Friday opened scoring 14 minutes into the game, former Remo Stars skipper VIctor Mbaoma doubled the lead for The Promise Keepers in the 66th minute. Michael Ibe made it 3-0 in the 81st minute, while Christian Pyagbara completed the rout in the 87th minute to end the game 4-0 at full time.
Elsewhere at the New Jos Stadium, reigning champions Plateau United thrashed Sunshine Stars of Akure 5-0 to keep the chase on leaders Akwa United alive. Chinedu Ajanah scored first early in the seventh minute, Sunday Ingbede made it 2-0 in the 15th minute.
Emeka Umeh added the third in the 20th minute of the clash. Tosin Omoyele netted a brace Mafeng Pam scores from Ingbede’s assist in the 87th minute to give the Kennedy Boboye tutored side vital home win.
Heartland FC confirmed their supremacy over boys from Ilorin following their convincing 2-0 win against Kwara United at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri. Biodun Thompson opened scoring for the Naze Millionaires in the 10th minute, before Nnamdi Egbujor completed the job with a powerful strike in the 79th minute.
Katsina United also triumphed 2-0 against visiting Niger Tornadoes. Chinedu Ajana scored first quite early in the seventh minute, while Eric Dufegha turned Tornadoes goalkeeper around to double the lead in the 47th minute.
Esosa Igbinoba turned in Ayo Saka’s cross as Lobi Stars defeated FC Ifeanyi Ubah 1-0 at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi. Former champions Kano Pillars defeated Lagos club, Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) FC 2-0 at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano. Junior Lokosa and Adamu Hassan were the scorers for the Masu Gida.
Abia Warriors and Rangers settled their Oriental Derby clash goalless, while El-Kanemi and Enyimba also played out a scoreless draw at the Maiduguri Township Stadium on Sunday. Oche Salefu scored his goal from the penalty spot in the 81st minute as Rivers United defeated newly promoted Go-Round FC 1-0 in another derby clash.
Meanwhile, with the massive home wins only one point separates both Akwa United and Plateau United FC at the top of the NPFL log.
