Morata Header Fires Chelsea Victory Against United
Alvaro Morata’s first goal since September earned Chelsea a deserved victory over Manchester United in an entertaining encounter at Stamford Bridge.
As Antonio Conte’s side had taken full control of the contest, the Spaniard was completely unmarked in the box and he expertly headed home Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross 10 minutes after the break.
The Blues could have sealed the three points on a couple of occasions but David De Gea saved well from the excellent Eden Hazard and Morata.
The opening stages of the game were even with it a much more open affair than many had expected, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia pushing high up on the flanks and lots of space in midfield.
The hosts could have got an early opener when Phil Jones spectacularly finished into this own net but Morata was harshly adjudged to have fouled the United defender. Ibrahim Bakayoko missed a great chance while Marcus Rashford headed over from close range.
As the first half progressed the Chelsea midfield became dominant, with man-of-the-match Cesc Fabregas and Hazard pulling the strings. Morata’s goal was just rewards for their control of the play and they really should have wrapped things up as Utd threw bodies forward but still struggled to create any real openings.
