Liberian People Have Clearly Made Their Choice – Weah
Former Ballon d’Or winner and the new president elect of Liberia, George Weah has said the Liberian people clearly made their choice through their votes in the runoff elections that gave him landslide victory over Vice President Joseph Boakai.
Reacting on the latest development the 1995 World, European and Africa’s best player took to his Twitter handle to express his happiness.
“The Liberian people clearly made their choice yesterday (Tuesday) and all together we are very confident in the result of the electoral process,” Weah wrote in one of his tweets after the victory.
The retired footballer defeated his 73-year-old opponent Boakai by sweeping 12 out of the 15 counties to become the country’s 25th president.
Meanwhile, the 51-year-old former Chelsea and Manchester City striker will replace Africa’s first female head of state, economist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as Liberia’s next president next year despite losing to her 13 years ago when he first contested for the country’s presidency.
As part of his electoral promises to the people of Liberia, Weah assured the citizens if elected he will attach the greatest importance to the situation of their fellow countrymen who are being held in Libya.
