Lagos Deputy Speaker enrolls five football coaches for Coerver Training
–LAFCA Chairman commends Lawmaker
Career of five football coaches within the constituency of the Lagos State House of Assembly deputy speaker Hon Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni got a major boost as the lawmaker enrolled them for the renowned Coerver coaching diploma course which will hold in Lagos on September 6-8 2018.
Hon Sanni who is representing Lagos Island constituency 1 in the House of Assembly is extending this gesture to the coaches as part of his campaign promises to empower his constituents and develop their capacity.
An ardent football enthusiast who contributed immensely to the development of grassroots sports during his tenure as the Executive Chairman Lagos Island Local Government, the Lawmaker believes in the power of football to unite and to positively engage the youth who are looking for where to channel their energy.
He said the motivation to improve the capacity of the coaches’ stem from his understanding of the burgeoning population of youths whose talents need to be harnessed by competent coaches.
“A coach has a strong influence on the player, If you train the coach he or she will impact the player and there is no way we want our football to develop without exposing our coaches to best form of training which in turn will affect the quality of our football” .
The lawmaker implored his colleagues and other politicians to take advantage of football as a tool for social development in tackling the restiveness in the land
“The good thing about this clinic for the grassroots coaches is the multiplying effect, for example if you train a coach, that same coach will share the knowledge with other coaches and the coach will also groom a whole lot of players, that is why I will appeal to my colleagues in the house and other politicians to also sponsor coaches in their constituencies”.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Lagos State Football Coaches Association Mr Fredrick Yamala has commended the lawmaker for his kind gesture to members of his association.
“What the deputy speaker has done is for posterity which will distinguish him from those who had the opportunity but did not do it”.
Yamala also challenged the beneficiaries of the lawmakers gesture to impact the grassroots with their knowledge for the benefit of their society community and by extension Nigeria.
