I’ll See You In Your Nightmares,Tyson Fury Fires Joshua Warning
Tyson Fury called out Anthony Joshua once again, and dropped a hint that Manuel Charr could be the man he faces in his comeback fight in April.
The self-styled Gypsy King, 29, has not fought since beating Wladimir Klitschko in their world heavyweight title fight in November 2015 due to a drugs ban and mental health problems.
But he is back in the gym, has lost nearly four stone on a new diet and is targeting an April bout to ensure he is not stripped of his The Ring magazine world heavyweight belt – as he was the WBA, IBF and IBO titles.
He must sign for a fight by the end of this month to ensure The Ring belt is not lost and by calling out Charr who, unlike Joshua, Joseph Parker and Deontay Wilder, does not hold a world title belt, he has earmarked a potential next opponent.
The tweet comes after Fury confirmed on Wednesday that he was reapplying for his boxing licence, which followed a bold claim that he could beat fellow Brit Joshua in his first fight back.
He posted: “I keep saying I want to fight @anthonyfjoshua in my first fight back, ray lennard (sic, Sugar Ray Leonard) had 1 fight in 5 years then came back & beat Marvin haglar (sic, Hagler), so it can be done.”
But Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has insisted that Fury come through a bout first before fighting his man, with the Londoner set to take on Parker next. “We simply cannot trust Tyson to turn up ready for AJ without proving himself in a comeback fight,” said Hearn on Wednesday. The likeliest scenario is that after fighting Parker in spring, Joshua will aim to fight Wilder in midsummer and then Fury at the end of the year.
