Governor Ishiaku Finally Approves N16m For Taraba Players
Taraba State Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku on Friday approved the sum of N16 million for payment of both FC Taraba and Taraba Queens players only, excluding the Officials of both teams according to reports received by the National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers (NANPF).
The players of the two state owned clubs last week protested their 18 months unpaid salaries at the state government house, but the money paid is not even enough to take care of two months salaries of the current players not to talk of the former players and officials.
In a statement released by NANPF secretary, Comrade Austin Popo, the union advised the players to accept what has been offered and avoid any confrontation with the security operatives, as the players union is already in consultation with the leadership of the Trade Union Congress on the latest development.
According to Popo, the meeting with the Trade Union Congress president, Comrade Bobboi Bala Kaigama is slated for Monday in Abuja. Meanwhile the players have agreed to wait for further directives from the Players Union.
As a matter of fact, the union has requested the secretaries of both teams to forward copies of the debt profile of both clubs pending the outcome of their meeting with TUC on Monday.
It would be recalled that players of the club were molested, tear-gassed by security operatives following the protest of 18 months unpaid salaries at the State Government house in Jalingo last week.
