German Cup: Bayern Clinch Double After Beating Dortmund 4-3 On Penalties
Bayern Munich defeated bitter rival Borrussia Dortmund, 4-3 on penalties to win the German Cup on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola left in tears after winning German Cup in his final game as Bayern Munich boss. He had earlier won the Bundesliga, beating Dortmund to the title. But the Spanish manager who is already heading to England failed to win the Champions League in his stint with the German giants.
Douglas Costa scored the crucial penalty kick to give Bayern Munich and Pep Guardiola a German Cup win in his last game as manager of the Bavarian club. Bayern and Dortmund could not be separated over the 90 minutes of normal time, although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put a golden opportunity off target with less than 10 minutes remaining.
It was an important game with their current sides for both Guardiola and Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, they will leave and join Bayern this summer respectively. The defeat means that Dortmund end Thomas Tuchel’s first season in charge without a trophy, having lost in the German cup final for a third successive season.
