With few hours to D’Tigress FIBA Afrobasket tournament opener against Mozambique, the Vice President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Babatunde Ogunade is confident that the team has what it takes to record their first win of the competition.

After meeting with the technical crew of the team led by Sam Vincent, Ogunade expressed optimism that with what he has witnessed during the last training session before their first game and the assurance from the technical team, the team is in top shape to start on a positive note.

“We have practised and prepared hard, putting finishing touches to our game plans, the coaches are good, the girls are in high spirit. I know the girls are encouraged to go all out and put up a good fight.”

Currently ranked second in Africa behind host, Mali, Oguande who led the delegation to Bamako, revealed that their intention is to take each game as it comes and give the competition which is the qualifiers for the 2018 FIBA Women World cup their best shot.

He further expressed satisfaction with the commitment shown so far by the players and technical crew to defend the national honor of the most populous black nation in the world.

Despite parading a better record against Mozambique with 4 wins in their last 6 meetings, Oguande stated, “I know Mozambique have a good team. We don’t deal with the names, we deal with the game. We are going there to play basketball and we will confront our adversaries head on.”

D’Tigress arrived Mali on the 16th of August, (two days before their opening game) to acclimatize on time to the weather and have a feel of the match venue while Mozambique arrived Bamako hours to their game against Nigeria. The match will take place at 9:pm local time (10:pm Nigerian time) at the Palais des Sports Salamatou Maïga, Bamako.
