Euro 2016: Rampant France Thrash Iceland 5-2 To Set-Up Semi Final Clash With Germany
Hosts France are through to the semi-final of EURO 2016 after a five-star performance, which culminated in the 5-2 thrashing of surprise package Iceland at Stade de France, in what was the last quarter-final clash at the tournament.
France raced to a 4-0 halftime lead courtesy goals from Oliver Giroud, Paul Pogba, Dmitri Payet and Antoine Griezmann. Icelandic forward Kolbeinn Sigthorsson pulled one back eleven minutes after the interval but any hopes of a comeback was extinguished by Oliver Giroud’s second goal of the game three minutes later before Birkir Bjanarson scored Iceland’s second consolation goal six minutes from time.
France will next face Germany in the second semi-final on Thursday, which is a repeat of the 2014 World Cup quarter-final clash Germany won 1-0.
