Done Deal: Arsenal Unveil Bramall As New Signing
Arsenal have announced on Tuesday the signing of young left-back, Cohen Bramall from Hednesford Town in the Northern League Premier Division.
Bramall, who will earn in the region of £3,000 per week, learned of his move just days after being made redundant from his £400-a-week job as a factory worker at Bentley Motors in Crewe.
The former Hednesford Town full back, speaking to Arsenal Player, said of his move: “It feels incredible. I can’t believe I’m here already. It’s been mental. It’s been crazy. I played for Hednesford Town. I had been there for about five months and the manager was Lee McDonald who really took me on.
“I wanted to be a left winger and he said in front of my mum and dad “no I want you to be a left back”. I was new to it but I played left back for him and he gave me a lot of confidence to be a proper left back.”
Crystal Palace and Sheffield Wednesday both offered Bramall a trial but when Arsenal came calling he could not turn down the lure of the north London giants. Bramall has already been given the chance to train under Arsene Wenger while he has had the pleasure of sharing a pitch with global superstars such as Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud.
“I met Arsene Wenger on the pitch,’ Bramall explains. ‘He’s a top, top guy and the chemistry was there straight away. Hopefully I can impress him. You are there watching Match of the Day at home and the next minute you are on the same pitch as Alexis [Sanchez], Mesut [Ozil], Olivier Giroud and Petr Cech.
“It still hasn’t hit me yet but you have to take the opportunity. They [his parents] couldn’t believe it. I phoned my mum and she said she was so proud and got upset. But it was a good cry. Everything is so surreal now.”
Wenger labelled the youngster ‘a promising left back’. The Gunners boss told Arsenal’s website: ‘I believe that when you go down, there’s mental selection. It’s a mental test – do you love football enough?
“Are you ready enough to fight [to show] that you are above this level and that you absolutely want to come back? Players like Giroud and Koscielny have had that test. They are similar to that. Once they get up, they really mean it. Bramall is a young, promising left back who has a lack of experience at the top level but who has fantastic ingredients.
