The League Management Company (LMC) have rescheduled week 2 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) fixtures involving defending champions Enyimba, Federation Cup champions Akwa United and Nasarawa United due to their engagement in CAF organised club competitions.
This was confirmed on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) website earlier on Monday as the Chief Operating Officer of the League Management Company (LMC) Salisu Abubakar disclosed that the Match Day 2 fixtures were postponed as a result of the request from the clubs participating in continental competitions.
In his words, Salisu Abubakar said: “The clubs were already not in Match Day 3 fixtures due to their continental fixtures holding on the weekend of February 26-28 but we have received representations from officials of the three clubs pleading to be allowed to focus on their continental fixtures.”
Abubakar also confirmed that Match Day 2 fixtures of other NPFL clubs will go ahead as planned on Wednesday. The affected fixtures include Akwa United vs. Ikorodu United, Enyimba vs. Shooting Stars and FC Ifeanyi Ubah vs. Nasarawa United.
Federations Cup champions Akwa United are in pole position to qualify for the next round of the CAF Confederations Cup as they host Vita Club Mokanda of Congo Brazzaville in the second leg already leading 1-0 in the tie. Nasarawa unitted however have it all to do with a slim 2-1 advantage to take to Senegal against Generation Foot.
League champions Enyimba will play hosts to Vipers of Uganda in the second leg of the CAF Champions League aiming to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg.
