By Olayinka Olawole
Former Golden Eaglets midfielder, Chigozie Obasi has reiterated his desire to help Osun United gain promotion to the topflight, as they prepare for the match-day 16 of the bet9ja Nigeria National League (NNL) fixtures against Akwa Starlets at the Uyo Township Stadium on Wednesday in Uyo.
The 2013 FIFA U-17 winner is still hopeful that his Osun United side can still gain promotion to the elite league despite being in eight position as they prepare for the week 15 clash having two games to his credit.
In a chat with SR Sports before departing for the game in Uyo, Obasi stated that the team have to keep believing and fighting till the dream of gaining promotion come true. “We must keep fighting to make sure we celebrate at the end of the season,” he exclaimed
Speaking further, he said: “We are all disappointed over drawing at home and not being able to pick maximum points away yet, but we still have many games to play and we are still in a good position to carry on as we will have to keep fighting till the end.
“No one is happy with where we are today, but we have to keep going on, because we still have a lot of points to pick. We have to make sure we start winning away games as of now. But in Nigerian football, playing home or away is not necessarily an advantage, you just need to keep fighting and concentrate on your game plan.
“We know the position we are in now, and we can’t afford to lose games again. We just have to keep pushing starting from our game in Uyo against Akwa Starlet. I hope and I believe that at the end of the season we will make our fans happy.”
The race to gain promotion to the NPFL hots up as Crown FC and Heartland FC are currently dictating the pace in the southern conference of the league. Meanwhile, Osun United occupy eighth position on the bet9ja NNL log.
