Simply The Best: Cameroon Forward Bassogog Named 2017 AFCON MVP
Indomitable Lions of Cameroon forward. Christian Bassogog has been named the Total Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) after helping his nation win their 5th title in Gabon.
The 21-year-old winger, who plays for Danish side AaB Aalborg won the accolade on Sunday after the AFCON tournament final between his country and seven-time champions Egypt.
Bassogog and his Cameroon team-mates came from behind to beat Egypt 2-1 in the final at the Stade de I’Amitie to win their fifth AFCON title.
The winger starred for Cameroon throughout the tournament as they recorded important wins over Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Ghana and Egypt.
Other award recipients include Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) forward Junior Kabananga, who walked away with the 2017 AFCON Golden Boot after netting three goals. Runner-up Egypt, won the Fair Play prize.
