Atletico Dust Marseille To Win Europa League Trophy
Atletico Madrid scored three goals against Olympique De Marseille to lift the Europa League trophy in Lyon, France.
In a match that ended 3-0, Antoine Griezmann was the star of the match, netting a brace with Gabi adding the ice on the cake to make it three.
Scoring in both halves, Griezmann opened the scoresheet with a beautiful finish after a defensive error from Marseille. Gabi received the ball after a poor control from Marseille’s Andre-Frank Zambo and passed it to Griezmann who slotted the ball in the back of the net after 21 minutes of play.
Things got worse for Marseille as captain Dimitri Payet left the pitch after an injury before the end of the first half.
Griezmann would keep the party on after resumption of the second half.
In the 49th minute, he was released through on goal by Koke and he made no mistake as he sent the ball over Mandanda into the back of the net for Atletico’s second goal of the night.
Gabi sealed the trophy from Atletico by sending a finely placed shot beyond Mandanda in the 89th minute.
The Europa League trophy was the sixth trophy for Atletico under coach Diego Simeone.
