Asaba2018: Kenya Tops Medal Table To Win Championship
Kenya won a total of 19 medals, 11 gold, six silver and two bronze while South Africa finished with nine gold, 13 silver, and eight bronze and Nigeria finished with nine gold, five silver, and five bronze.
Kenyan men won seven gold while their women won four gold with Hellen Obiri winning gold for Kenya in the women’s 5,000m final at the tournament.
Star athletes for the host country, Nigeria, failed to stamp their names in the championship.
Morocco came fourth with two gold, three silver and four bronze while Ethiopia took fifth with two gold, two silver and four bronze. Ivory Coast placed sixth with two gold, two silver and two bronze.
Tunisia, Botswana, Egypt, Burkina Faso, Algeria, Benin, Ghana, Cameroon, Swaziland, Burundi, Guinea Bissau, Uganda, Eritrea, Zambia, Liberia, Congo, and Lesotho complete the table in that order.
Announcing prize money for the championship, Solomon Ogba, LOC Chairman announced that gold medalists will get a cash prize of $3000 each while silver medalists will be rewarded with ($2000) as bronze medalists will be rewarded with the sum of $1000.
