Amuneke Hails ‘Ageless’ El-Hadary After Helping Egypt To Reach AFCON Final
Former Super Eagles forward, Emmanuel Amuneke has hailed the heroics of 44-year old Egyptian goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary after guiding the team to the final of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.
Amuneke, who is currently in Doha, Qatar, working as an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) pundit for Bein Sports, for cable television, Aljazeera particularly showered praises on the goalkeeper for helping the Pharaohs of Egypt in the semi-final penalty shoot-out against Burkina Faso.
On the ageless goalkeeper, Amuneke said: “Essam El-Hadary has been brilliant even though he is the oldest player in this tournament. He has been the reason Egypt are now in the final. Fabrice Ondoa of Cameroon, Burkina Faso’s Moussa Sanoa and Ghana’s Razaq Braimah have also impressed.
“Goalkeepers have been exceptionally brilliant in this Nations Cup. And there is this feeling that specifically among the four semi-finalists, goalkeepers will play a role in which of them who will eventually be crowned champions on Sunday, ” he further added.
El-Hadary was in top form as he saved two penalties in the dreaded penalty shoot-outs to edge Egypt into Sunday’s tournament finale with the Pharaohs expected to face either Ghana or Cameroon.
